Facebook demystifies Messenger app permissions

Having been issued with a 7 day grace period to switch over to a new messaging app before the old chat service shuts down, some users have been a little apprehensive about installing another Facebook app, complete with a new set of permissions. Understanding that some users are sceptical about giving apps free roam through their pictures, messages, and contacts, Facebook has added a new page to its help section explaining exactly what the new Messenger app needs and uses these permissions for, and it all appears above board.

The software suite supports over 30 different languages and a good selection of operating systems, but sadly not Android. A small group of developers have been hard at work for over a year attempting to port the open source office suite over to Android, and they are on the verge of having at least part of the project ready for release.

Samsung officially overtakes Nokia as top cell phone brand for 2012

Toshiba CEO resigns amid $1.2B false accounting scandal

To say the current corporate climate in Japan is terse right now is somewhat of a surreal reality. For a country largely associated with “pure” and honest business practices, a traditional commitment to protect the tenure of the employee (at times to the detriment of the company’s own well-being) and the origin of some of the world’s most respected companies, the current scandal Toshiba has been charged with is truly mindblowing, perhaps all the more so given how the numbers in this one continue to rise as it progresses.

WhatsApp says you'll eventually need to accept its new privacy terms

WhatsApp has published a blog post reminding users that they’ll eventually have to accept its controversial privacy update to continue using the messaging service. The platform has a new plan of asking users to review its terms of service and privacy policy. The Facebook-owned company said it’s now using the Status feature on the app to share its values and updates directly within WhatsApp. “We previously encountered a great deal of misinformation about this update and we continue to work hard to clear up any confusion,” WhatsApp wrote, addressing the flak it received after it announced updates to its privacy policy in January.
