Google Frightgeist scares up Halloween costume trends

Google Trends has launched a new interface that lets you gauge the likelihood of showing up to the costume party dressed just like someone else. It’s called Frightgeist, and it uses Google Trends’ search data to anticipate how many people are dressing up in specific costumes this Halloween season in the United States. You can even see which costumes are most popular by region. Spoilers: if you’re planning on going as Harley Quinn, don’t expect to be the only motley seductress on the dance floor or get any bonus points for creativity.

Google is bringing one of the web's most annoying practices to Play Store

Autoplaying videos are one of the most divisive features on the web today, as websites blare out content regardless of your wishes. Now, it seems like the Google Play Store will be offering this functionality. Google noted on its Play Console Help portal (h/t: XDA-Developers) that it will be enabling autoplaying videos on the Google Play Store from September 2019. The firm reasons that autoplaying videos will “help more users discover your content at a glance.

Here's how to enable double tap to wake on the Nexus 6P

Some smartphone makers implement a feature in their devices called “double tap to wake”, which allows users to wake the phone’s display by simply tapping on the screen two quick times. This feature is put in place for good reason on smartphones like the HTC One M8 or the LG G4 that have oddly-placed power buttons. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for it to be on the new Nexus 6P, as it not only has a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and easily-accessible power button, it also comes with Google’s handy Ambient Display mode.

HTC teases a "big technological breakthrough" with the Vive at CES 2016

HTC CEO Cher Wang says she has something big for us to look forward to at CES 2016. At today’s Vive Unbound developers forum in China, Cher Wang said that her team and Valve have made “a very, very big technological breakthrough” with their Vive virtual reality system. While we aren’t entirely sure what this big upgrade is about, Wang did say that it’ll be shown off for the very first time at CES 2016 in early January.

Sony surprises everyone with a free Lemmings mobile game

Surprising virtually everyone, the PlayStation Blog has revealed that a mobile version of Lemmings is now available. The game is the latest entry in the Lemmings series, which started in 1991 and initially launched on the Amiga. Even though this version of Lemmings is brand new (being developed by Sad Puppy Limited), the basic concept remains the same as its predecessors. The game is a puzzle-platformer that tasks you with guiding at least a certain percentage of anthropomorphized lemmings through stages filled with obstacles.
