Current owners of the popular midsize car can get a free upgrade to Android Wear by visiting a Hyundai dealership or, starting “later this summer,” by downloading Android Wear, copying it to an USB stick, and plugging it into the Sonata’s USB port.

Amazon isn't Apple, they're not trying to run a high margin business

Amazon announced their Q4 2012 financial results yesterday. How much money did they make? $97 million. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but here’s a number that does sound pretty damn incredible: $21.27 billion. That’s how much money Amazon took in during the last three months of 2012. Some tech sites that we’re not going to mention seem to think that because Amazon doesn’t have high double digit margins like Apple, that they’re somehow screwed.

Android Q Thermal API will let apps act when your phone gets too hot

Smartphone processors have made amazing progress over the years, but they still heat up and consume loads of juice when running advanced tasks. Google is taking action in Android Q though, thanks to a so-called Thermal API. Apps and games can use this API to take relevant measures when they detect that a device’s temperature is too high, Google notes on its developer website. “For example, streaming apps could reduce resolution/bit rate or network traffic, a camera app could disable flash or intensive image enhancement, a game could reduce frame rate or polygon tesselation, a media app could reduce speaker volume, and a maps app could turn off GPS,” the company wrote.

We also have some rumors about the batch of 2021 iPhones, the 2020 iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, Apple’s acquisition of Intel’s modem business, a lawsuit against Apple over its objectively-bad butterfly keyboard, and the first-ever Apple Music Awards.

Google buys Nest Labs for a cool $3.2 billion in cash

Nest Labs produces thermostats and smoke detectors that not only are smart but look good as well. Most interestingly, the founder of Nest is famous former Apple employee Tony Fadell, who’s known for his iPod- and iOS-related work – in fact, he started making Nest thermostats only two years ago, after leaving Apple, and now he will be joining Google. It’s not clear yet what Google will do with the company now that it owns it, but we wouldn’t be surprised to hear that Nest products will somehow be integrated in Google’s connected home plans.

Hands-on with the Moto Z2 Play

The Moto Z Play impressed us last year for many reasons, and much of that had to do with its striking balance of a well-rounded feature set and affordable price point. Rather than waiting a full year for a proper refresh cycle, Motorola decided to take the wraps off the device’s successor, the Moto Z2 Play, just a few weeks ago. We’ve spent a short amount of time with the device so far, and we’re excited to share with you our first look at Motorola’s latest mid-ranger.
