B&N Nook holiday shopping weekend sales also doubled this year

Amazon isn’t the only e-reader brand bragging about its recent holiday shopping weekend success. Barnes & Noble has now released a press statement revealing that their Nook e-reader sales doubled over the four-day Black Friday weekend when compared to last year. Just like Amazon’s press release, this information comes without any real numbers to go by and is mostly for show. We really know little about how well either the Kindle or Nook line did during the Black Friday weekend, though we can at least assume both brands are doing quite well this holiday shopping season based on the limited information we do have.

T-Mobile's Taco Tuesday a hit with Times Square tourists

“DO YOU WANT A TACO? C’MON, YOU KNOW YOU WANT A TACO! FREE TACOS!” blared a T-Mobile employee through a megaphone at passersby in New York City’s Times Square. Based on what I saw over the span of about 90 minutes at T-Mobile’s flagship store, yes indeed, people wanted tacos. A constant line of about 40 people curled around the corner on Broadway and ran a short length down 46th Street. Upon entering the T-MoBell store, employees handed taco seekers some swag and let them take a selfie in front of a branded backdrop.

A BlackBerry launch is scheduled for August 30, 2018 in Berlin

TL;DR TCL, which owns the BlackBerry smartphone brand, just sent out event invites for an August 30 launch. The event will take place at Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin. It’s likely TCL will launch the BlackBerry Key2 LE, but it could also launch something we’re not expecting. Last week, we saw some leaked photos and specs of what appears to be the BlackBerry Key2 LE — a more budget-friendly version of the BlackBerry Key2, released earlier this year.

Those of you looking to buy a brand new Android tablet should know that Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for one of Samsung’s 2012 tablets, the Galaxy Note 10.1. The device, announced back at MWC 2012, costs $549.99 and it will be shipped in 3 to 5 weeks, so there’s plenty of waiting in store for you. For that amount of cash you’ll be getting the 32GB Galaxy Note 10.1 Wi-Fi version.

Google changes its terms and conditions to stop Android fragmentation

Although Android itself is released as open source the SDK isn’t. Under the SDK’s license Google owns all the legal and intellectual property rights and it licenses developers to use the SDK solely to develop applications that run on the Android platform. In September Acer and Alibaba’s cloud computing unit planned to launch a new smartphone which used the Android based Aliyun OS. However, according to Alibaba, Acer were told in no uncertain terms by Google that if it went ahead with the launch then Google would terminate all Android product cooperation and related technical authorization.

Here is what a Google spokesperson had to say: Pixel 5a 5G is not cancelled. Not only does this confirm that there will, in fact, be a Pixel 5a, but it also confirms that it will support 5G connections.

Samsung Galaxy View marches one step closer to launch

Earlier this month at its IFA press event, Samsung unveiled the new Gear S2 smartwatch, but that’s not all. At the very end of the event, Samsung also very briefly teased a new product called the Samsung Galaxy View. Based on the short teaser and all the prior rumors, it seems likely the View is therumored 18.4-inch tablet from the Korean giant. Now it looks like we are one step closer to an official Galaxy View announcement, as the View may have just been certified by Bluetooth SIG.
