$40 Visible Android service coming on VZW network, starts with Galaxy S9

TL;DR Visible offers a $40-per-month unlimited plan that works on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. There is now Visible Android support, and you can buy the Samsung Galaxy S9 through the online-only carrier. Support for all Android phones isn’t here yet, but more OEMs are coming soon. When Visible launched in mid-2018, it was an exciting new entry into the online-only mobile carrier service space. However, Android users were disappointed to find that only iOS devices worked on the carrier.

Honor 7X vs. Moto G5 Plus

Sponsored by Honor Motorola has been the king of the budget space ever since the original Moto G, but how do things look heading into 2018? Over the last few years a number of companies have attempted to steal the crown, including Honor. With the arrival of the Honor 7X, the budget market may finally have a new king. Probably the most direct competitor to the Honor 7X would be the Moto G5 Plus, as both phones hover right around the $200 mark.

It's official! HTC One coming to Verizon this summer

The HTC One isn’t just another flagship phone, it represents the last bastion of hope for a company that wishes to rebuild its lost empire. So far the HTC has certainly provided a much-needed boost to HTC’s reputation thanks to its sexy, well-built design. Unfortunately, it has also yet to launch on America’s biggest cellular network. All of that changes this summer, as Verizon Wireless has finally confirmed the HTC One is in fact coming.

Researchers trick Alexa, Google Home to eavesdrop and steal passwords

We knew Google and Amazon listen to their users through their voice-activated Echo and Home smart speakers. However, a group of security researchers have now demonstrated how third-party apps can easily eavesdrop on users and voice-phish sensitive information like passwords. Researchers at Germany’s SRLabs found two hacking scenarios — eavesdropping and phishing — for both Amazon Alexa and Google Home/Nest devices. They created eight voice apps (Skills for Alexa and Actions for Google Home) to demonstrate the hacks that turns these smart speakers into smart spies.

Android push notification spam is out of control

You reach excitedly for your phone, which just flashed or vibrated or chirped an alert to grab your attention. What will it be? A new email about that job you want? A text message from the object of your affections? Maybe a Facebook invite to a party? No, it turns out that there’s a new music track available in AutoRap. Hands up if you’re sick of useless push notifications. I’m going to assume that the majority of you raised your hands, or at least thought about it and then decided it would be pointless because I can’t see you anyway.

Google apps will now deliver security alerts: What you need to know

TL;DR Google is bringing account security alerts inside its apps. They should more quickly warn you of trouble, and are more trustworthy. Google Assistant, meanwhile, is getting  a guest mode for anonymous commands. Google’s efforts to bolster security now include clearer, more trustworthy account security alerts, greater control over location, and improved anonymity for Assistant. The internet giant is about to roll out redesigned security alerts that appear inside its various apps.

Google rolls out ‘Ok Google’ voice search to Chrome stable channel

Google has slowly but surely be working over the last year or so to bring many of the voice-powered functions seen on mobile devices over to our computers as well. About two months ago Chrome finally saw full Google Now-like cards arrive to the stable channel of the browser, after first arriving in Canary, alpha and beta builds. Now hands-free “Ok, Google” voice search is following suit. While Google has had voice search for a while, previously you had to click on the microphone icon within a new tab or via Google’s main website in order for it to work.
