Android developers can now force you to update your apps

Starting soon, you’ll likely start to see pop-up warnings when you open certain apps on your Android device. The warnings will prevent you from using the application until you update it. This tool will help devs keep their apps safe by ensuring older versions aren’t used if there’s a known problem with that version. Android developers have two new ways to update their apps News “Right now, if you have an update, either you have auto-update or you need to go to the Play Store to even know that there is an update, or maybe the Play Store will give you a notification,” Chet Haase, chief advocate for Android, said.

HTC Vive phone companion app keeps you notified while in VR

The age of virtual reality is already here with the Oculus Rift and Gear VR, and very soon HTC and Valve’s Vive headset is scheduled to start landing in consumer hands too. To coincide with the consumer launch, HTC has released a Vive companion app for Android phones that will keep you up to date with your latest notifications when you’re worlds away. Essentially, the companion application pushes notifications from your phone directly to the PC that’s connected up to your Vive headset, so you don’t have to take off the headset to see that a message has come through.

Android, at the moment at least, runs primarily on devices with ARM based CPUs. The ARM CPU is a special low-power, high performance chip designed to run in devices rather than in desktop computers.
