Oppo Reno 7 series officially launched in China

TL;DR Oppo has officially launched the Reno 7 series in China. The Reno 7 Pro features a cat-eye camera up front, a 50MP sensor at the rear, and a “breathing” notification light. Pricing starts a 3,699 yuan. Oppo briefly teased the Reno 7 series’ camera chops earlier this week, talking up its “cat-eye” technology co-developed with Sony. Now, the family of mid-range devices is official. The Reno 7 series made its debut at an event in China on Wednesday, and as promised, the latest mid-range line includes interesting camera hardware both front and back.

Unlimited AT&T data plan works on iPhone 5 and Android LTE devices

AT&T gets slap on the wrist for ‘preventable outages’ of 911 services

TL;DR In 2017, AT&T had two separate instances where 911 services were dropped or limited for its customers. The outages resulted in a total of over 15,000 calls to 911 delayed or blocked entirely. The FCC fined AT&T $5.25 million today to settle the investigations. The FCC just fined AT&T $5.25 million in order to settle an investigation into two nationwide outages of 911 phone services in 2017. One outage lasted for about five hours and affected over 12,000 people looking for 911 assistance.

Get Android component updates via Google Play

TL;DR Google has announced Project Mainline, allowing core Android components to be updated via Google Play. Core Android components previously had to be updated via a full OTA update from a manufacturer. Google says another benefit is that major security fixes can be deployed via this method. One of the biggest complaints about Android over the years has been the lack of system updates compared to Apple devices. Google has since delivered the Project Treble initiative to speed things up, but it’s also got another initiative up its sleeve in Project Mainline.
