Video: LG has a '2nd gen' quad-core monster in store

Some time ago, we brought you news of LG’s intent to create a new flagship phone. in the last few days we confirmed that news. We’re now here to report they have a video teaser site up that will entice your wicked curiosity. The name has been switched from the ‘D1L’ and will be a ‘2nd gen’ quad core device, unlike the 4X HD which hit Europe in June. This will apparently be a beast of a phone containing a 720p 4.

License to Sony Xperia T

The Xperia T is the new flagship device of the company, sporting a 4.6-inch touchscreen display with 1280 x 720 resolution, dual core 1.5GHz processor, 16GB of storage, 13-megapixel camera with Exmor R sensor, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich under the hood. But, what’s even greater about the phone, is that Sony managed to score some sweet product placement for the device. The Xperia T will be the handset of choice of James Bond in the latest part of the series, Skyfall, which is set to hit cinemas on October 26.

Mysterious Samsung 5G 'Bolt' phone referenced in Note 9 firmware

The firmware refers to a smartphone with the codename “bolt5gvzw.” The “5G” aspect of the codename is relatively easy to figure out, as is the final three letters, “VZW,” which reference Verizon Wireless. The “Bolt,” however, is unknown at this point, but is very likely the name of a smartphone. If so, the codename suggests there is a Samsung 5G smartphone on the way to Verizon which will either be codenamed Bolt or be called the Samsung Bolt.

Samsung embraces camera cutout lighting, brings feature to Good Lock

After the Samsung Galaxy S10 family hit store shelves, a few apps popped up that allowed users to emulate a notification light by adding lighting effects around the camera cutout on the front of the devices. Holey Light is one such example, which we wrote about here. As with Holey Light, users can customize a light ring around the selfie cam which appears when notifications arrive on the Galaxy S10. You can choose a different color for each type of notification (including a multi-color option) and can also customize the duration of the light’s blinking.

You won't be able to log into your Google account on your old device soon

TL;DR You won’t be able to log in to your Google account on your old device from September 27. This affects all devices running Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread and lower. There are loads of Android devices out there running outdated versions of the platform, be it due to manufacturers no longer issuing updates or because these devices are simply very old. You can still do the basics here, but it looks like Google is introducing a major restriction soon.

Chrome for Android no longer merging apps and tabs by default

Quick show of hands, how many of you actually liked when Chrome began populating the recent apps menu with every single one of your open tabs, starting with Lollipop? I suspect that not many of you put your hands up, probably because you didn’t like the feature at all, or you realize I can’t actually see you put your hand up anyhow. Personally, this was one of the first things I shut off in the Chrome settings and was totally thankful that Google was merciful enough to give us the option of disabling this ‘feature’.

Google Play Awards 2018 nominees revealed ahead of Google I/O

Google has announced the nominees for the third annual Google Play Awards, and the shortlist is a who’s who of stellar apps and games that either launched or enjoyed a major update since April 2017. Much like last year, the winners will be revealed just before the start of Google I/O — the Mountain View company’s yearly developer-focused event — on May 7.

Well, it was fun while it lasted, but the latest data seems to indicate that the latest poke-craze is already on its way out. A variety of app and market intelligence firms are reporting that Pokemon Go usership is starting to fade away. This could be our first look at the Moto G10 Play

TL;DR Leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer shared renders of what could be the Moto G10 Play. Tweaks include a new side-mounted fingerprint sensor and repositioned camera cutout. It was only in August that Motorola released the Moto G9 Play, but it looks like the company may already be prepping a successor to the budget device. On Monday morning, frequent leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer shared renders of a new phone, the XT-2117, he believes Motorola will market as the Moto G10 Play.

What’s new in MIUI 9

While there’s a big camp of Android users that prefer stock Android experience, there are also fans of customized UI layers that several OEMs ship their phones with. Xiaomi’s MIUI is one of the more popular ones, especially because Xiaomi adds several nifty little features and utilities over and above the Android experience. It’s interesting to note that Xiaomi started as a software company in 2010 and MIUI (based on Android 2.
