The custom ROM is based on AOSP code for Ice Cream Sandwich. So far, the ROM is still in the pre-alpha stage, so it is not quite perfect yet. If you install this custom ROM into your Kindle Fire, it is likely that you will experience issues.

Executives are abandoning Andy Rubin’s Essential smartphone project

Running a startup is no easy task, especially in such a competitive industry as that of the high-end smartphones. When the father of Android announced the Essential Phone at the end of May, he promised that it will ship by the end of June. Needless to say, it didn’t. In fact, it was only certified by the FCC near the end of last month. Rubin has since stated that the handset is coming in August — still, it sounds like a case of biting off more than the startup company can chew.

Google wants better female representation in emoji

In their proposal, Google cites the writing of Amy Butcher, who published a piece in the New York Times about this very issue: Yes, there were women’s faces, and tiny women’s bodies. But for the women actually engaged in an activity or profession, there were only archetypes: the flamenco dancer in her red gown, the bride in her flowing veil, the princess in her gold tiara. There was a set of ballet dancers complete with bunny ears and black leotards, their smiles indicating that, gosh, they were so grateful to God and everyone, really, for this opportunity to pose for Playboy…

Survey report gives us hint of what people would pay for social media apps

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority The vast majority of social media apps are free for all to use, including Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. In exchange for the free use of the platforms, you give the networks the right to harvest your data to assist advertisers in serving you the appropriate marketing materials. But what if that wasn’t the case? What if, instead, you paid a flat monthly fee for access to specific social media platforms?

Xposed framework developer gives us an update on Android Nougat support

“Current status for Nougat: Hooks are generally working now. However, they’re still unreliable for inlined methods and when JIT is used (which is often the case). I had give a few technical insights here. I’m currently thinking about the different situations that need to be handled and I create unit tests for them. Then I need to fix those which are failing or even crashing the device – ideally without recompiling the whole ROM like in previous versions.

HTC 10 in Camellia Red primed for purchase in Japan

The phone is set for release on Japan’s smallest major mobile service provider, KDDI au, sometime in mid-June, and while pricing has not been set, it will probably retail for around 90,000 yen, or roughly $810. For reference, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge which launched a few weeks ago, is even more expensive. Phones in Japan are typically much more costly than they are overseas, something that was covered with last year’s bizarre Nexus situation that saw the mid-range 5X retail for more than the premium 6P.
