Researchers find Android apps that covertly mine Dogecoin, one of them with more than a million downloads

Two apps in the Play Store, one of them with more than a million downloads, are mining cryptocurrency whenever the device is plugged in for charging. Identified by the researchers of security firm Trend Micro, the apps are some of the first malware found in the Play Store that uses virtual currency mining to generate profits for its developers. Trend Micro found that the two apps, Songs (1 to 5 million installs) and Prized (10,000 – 50,000 installs) mine Dogecoin or Litecoin, which is later converted into Bitcoin.

SoundBub is a cute Bluetooth speaker made for babies

If you have little babies, you are likely familiar with sound monitors that allow you to know if your child is safe while you are away from his or her crib. Now a company called Wavhello has come up with an idea that turns an ordinary Bluetooth speaker into SoundBub, one that’s made just for babies. The speaker comes in three super-cute designs; Bella the bunny, Ollie the owl and Benji the bear.

Google Play Store leading in number of downloads, says Canalys study

The Google Play Store was the leading app store among the four major ones in terms of number of downloads in this year’s first quarter, according to Canalys’ App Interrogator research. The research takes into account data for the four major application stores – Google Play Store (which should be getting some look changes soon), Apple App Store, Windows Phone Store, and BlackBerry World. On the financial front, Apple’s App Store is the clear leader, with a 74 percent share of revenue out of a total of $2.

OnePlus Store app hits Canada and the US ahead of OnePlus 9 launch

Samsung shares 6G vision: Holograms, 16K VR, more

TL;DR Samsung has published a white paper regarding 6G technology. It foresees user-experienced download speeds of 1Gbps and latency under ten milliseconds. Samsung thinks 6G networks could arrive as soon as 2028. 5G has launched in many markets, although there are still several major countries that have yet to receive the new connectivity standard.
