The popular Android smartphone launcher Action Launcher is rolling out a rather major update starting today. Version 31 of the app has some nice additions, including one that brings the cool adaptive icons over for folders as well.
Action Launcher added adaptive icon support, which was one of the big features in Android 8.0 Oreo, to devices that ran on Android 6.0 Lollipop and later. Now that feature, which allows the shape of icons to be changed across the whole operating system, can be added to folders via Action Launcher.

Android 12 integrates the Android Runtime (ART) into Project Mainline. Google can issue ART upgrades to Android 12 devices through Google Play updates. This is good news for timely bug and security fixes without the long waits associated with full OS updates. Despite arriving faster than in previous years, timely Android updates are still a bugbear of Google’s mobile ecosystem. Google started down the road to solving this problem with 2017’s Project Treble, this was then extended to enable component updates via Google Play with Project Mainline.

Yet another set of Google Pixel 6 series renders have leaked. More noticeably, side-on shots showcase just how large the phones’ camera bump is. Google will launch both devices on October 19. Thanks to the plethora of leaked images and Google’s teaser shots, you’re probably used to the Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro’s design. However, a new set of renders highlights one particular feature of the flagship duo — the rear camera hump.
Over the last couple of years, the focus on application permissions has been slowly but steadily gathering traction. This is great news because Android app permissions are the best way to determine what an app is doing without ripping the app apart Ron Amadeo-style and literally looking at what the app is doing in the code. Unfortunately, this has also created a new source of paranoia as users look at a permission that an app needs and immediately think of the worst case scenario which isn’t necessarily the correct mindset either.

90Hz refresh rate displays have been immensely popular in smartphones in the latter half of 2019. That got me thinking — is the promise of a faster more responsive experience just marketing hype or is it really a game-changer?
Each participant was handed the two Realme’s to try and then the two OnePlus phones. Each pair had one device set to 60Hz and one set to 90Hz for a real apples-to-apples comparison.
