Since the original Galaxy S, the physical home button has been a staple of Samsung’s flagship Android smartphones, a key part of the company’s mobile design language, and a tactile feature prefered by many. The arrival of the Galaxy S5 saw the home button take on a new role as the hub for the company’s fingerprint scanner, making the feature a key part of Samsung’s Knox security platform as well.
But the Galaxy S8 does away with one of Samsung Mobile’s most recognisable calling cards, instead leaving the bezel-less design of the handset to market the brand all by itself.
For the uninitiated, Trainz is the world’s leading train simulator in which you build and manage your own railroads in a real-world setting. A New Era is the latest release in this popular series and undoubtedly takes the realism to the next level. You’re not in SimCity anymore.
Just remember to shower and feed the cat
The detail is staggering; check out the video above. Both the impressive graphics and the accuracy of the historic and modern routes is enough to keep even the most avid train buff entertained for hundreds of hours.
Google’s Android operating system has come a long way since its unveiling almost a decade ago, and it was probably tough to originally foresee that the OS would go on to claim the largest install base of any consumer operating system. In that time, Android has undergone a number of user interface overhauls and has introduced a huge selection of key features, from the first CDMA network support with Android Donut to mobile payments and fingerprint scanning technologies in today’s flagships.
The ever popular CyanogenMod 11 ROM is now available for the first batch of Android One smartphones. The Android One program already delivers a stock-Android experience, but CyanogenMod offers a few tweaks and improvements to the barebones Android OS.
Varun.chitre15, an India-based XDA forum member who already rooted these smartphones, has managed to port the ROM over to each of the three Android One handsets, aided by their similar hardware configurations. The ROM is universal and therefore doesn’t require a unique ROM version for each phone.
The Google Pixelbook is a 12.3-inch foldable laptop running ChromeOS. It has full support for the Google Play Store too, so you’ll be able to run all your favorite apps and games right on your laptop.
At just 2.4 pounds (just over 1 kg) and only 10 mm thick, you should be able to take it just about anywhere, whether you want to use Google Play Books on the train or watch a video on Google Play Movies.
The Honor Play is one of the most recent smartphones from Huawei, under its Honor branding. It’s also one of the select phones made and marketed specifically for the mobile gaming audience. It includes features normally found in flagship phones, like a big 6.3-inch display, Huawei’s fast HiSilicon Kirin 970 processor, up to 6GB of RAM, and the company’s GPU Turbo tech, which will boost the performance of the phone’s graphics chip. Sony has launched a registration page that can move you to the front of the PlayStation 5 pre-order queue in the US. If you’re selected, you’ll get to order one system. You’re not guaranteed a spot, and you’ll have to act quickly. Sony still isn’t taking PlayStation 5 pre-orders, but you now have a chance to jump to the front of the line, if you’re lucky.
Twitter tipster Wario 64 has learned of a Sony registration page that lets US gamers with PSN IDs sign up for an email invitation to pre-order before most of the public.
