AT&T continues to threaten cities with lawsuits unless given what they want

As this site has mentioned a number of times, it is rather unbelievable to see internet service providers (ISP’s) continue to pass on wiring a large portion of the country yet then object to residents in those areas wanting to pay for fast internet themselves. Granted, the ISP’s make sure to receive all the tax benefits from those areas whether they are wired or not. Whenever a major ISP is entering a new market, they scream about needing a “level playing field” yet they turn around and do everything they can to make it as difficult as possible for competitors to enter those same markets.

Fitbit brings its smartwatch Fitbit Versa, with female health tracking, to India

In a press event in Mumbai yesterday, Fitbit announced the launch of Fitbit Versa in India. The company’s lightest smartwatch features a 4-day battery lift and cross-platform compatibility, along with two new marquee features – female health tracking and quick replies. The former allows women to track their menstrual cycles and symptoms while the latter allows Android users to respond to text messages or messages on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger on the go from the watch itself.

Google makes Assistant more accessible to people with disabilities

TL;DR Google Assistant is now more accessible through Tobii tablets and apps. Eye tracking, touch and scanning make Assistant an option for those with disabilities. You can use Tobii to create Action Blocks on Android, too. Google Assistant can be very helpful for questions and day-to-day tasks, but it can be difficult to use if disabilities make it difficult to speak or use a conventional touchscreen. That might not be an issue for much longer, however.

Walmart shows up at CES 2013, announces new disc-to-digital service

When people think of CES 2013, they definitely think of Walmart. They really don’t, but the retail chain actually did make an appearance with intent to announce new features. We’re surprised as well. However, it isn’t the first time a retail chain has announced something at a large tech show.Walmart intends to expand on their previous disc-to-digital service. In case you’re not familiar with the premise, customers would sign up for an account on VUDU.

You won't need Android TV to get a YouTube app on Chromecast

TL;DR Google is testing a YouTube ‘app’ for Chromecast devices without Android TV. You’d get a remote control, suggestions and other features normally reserved for full apps. It’s not certain when this will be widely available, assuming it moves forward. The YouTube experience on earlier Chromecast devices is very basic, but it could become decidedly more sophisticated in the future. 9to5Google readers have discovered that Google is testing a web-based YouTube ‘app’ for Chromecast that significantly expands the functionality without making you spring for an Android TV-based device like the newest Chromecast or a smart television.

Android P has a new colorful design for Android settings

However, Google is adding a new coat of paint to the settings page in the future iteration of the operating system, Android P. Below is a screenshot of what it will look like: As you can immediately tell, the monochrome icons are now quite colorful. The images themselves have also been slightly redesigned, with a circular background added to each one. Google announces Android P Developer Preview, available for Pixel phones

Twitter hack: Access to huge accounts just to get Bitcoin? And more tech today!

The hack continued for more than an hour at least. Initial messages included requests to send $1,000 in Bitcoin to an address starting with bc1qxy2kg, to which $2,000 would be sent in return. Numbers from blockchain.com suggest as little as under 13 BTC was received, or around $100,000 in ill-gotten loot. Estimates are just that, though. The hackers might have sent themselves Bitcoin in advance to generate more excitement, so the quantity of money is more unknown than known and could be less.

5 things we learned about the Pixel 6 Pro cameras after its latest leak

We’ve seen a slew of Pixel 6 series details surface in recent months, in large part due to Google itself. But the upcoming flagships have also been the subject of many leaks, and we’ve got another significant leak this week. LG pulls an LG, launches G5 smart cover ahead of the G5

In an industry where secrecy is the norm, LG is something of a contrarian. The Korean company likes to trickle out details of its upcoming flagships days, sometimes even weeks, in advance, and the LG G5 is no exception. The latest tidbit that LG is revealing about the G5 is a smart cover that’s “answering the age old question – what came first, the smartphone or the cover?” Metaphor abuse aside, LG’s Quick Cover is “designed specifically” for the upcoming G5 and comes with features like touch functionality that allows the user to take calls or silence alarms without opening the cover.
