Marshmallow arrives for Xperia M4 Aqua and M5

Good news everyone! Er, well, at least for Sony Xperia fans, anyway. Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow is now formally rolling out for Xperia M4 Aqua devices and Xperia M5 devices. Soon owners of these smartphones will be privy to all the Marshmallowy goodness that the most recent (official) version of Android has to offer. Naturally these users will be getting Marshmallow’s handy granular permissions capabilities as well as Google Now On Tap, which provides users with contextual information based on what is currently on the screen.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini coming to T-Mobile as the Galaxy Exhibit

It looks like the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is making its way to the United States once again, this time coming to T-Mobile rebadged as the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit. Despite not officially coming to the United States under the S3 Mini name, this is the second time that Samsung has rebadged the device as an “exclusive” for a U.S. carrier. The first U.S. appearance for the Mini was with US Cellular, where it is called the Samsung Galaxy Axiom.

Android 11 could offer more customizable back gesture controls

Gesture navigation is a feature on almost all Android phones today, allowing you to swipe the screen to go back, home, or activate multitasking. The back gesture, which requires you to swipe in from the left or right edge of the screen, isn’t perfect though. Fortunately, it seems like Google will let you tweak that in Android 11. 9to5Google managed to activate a new Gesture Settings page on the Android 11 developer preview, and this page lets you fine-tune the back gesture for either edge of the screen.

Clove UK to sell the Xperia J for £190 on October 29

It was only yesterday we brought the news that Sony’s latest budget phone, the Xperia J, is heading to Carphone Warehouse in the UK in a matter of days. Now, another retailer in the country has announced that it too will be selling Sony’s colorful offering. Clove has put up the product page for the Xperia J. This time, we don’t have to guess just how low Sony is willing to price the J for to grab the attention of those who are looking for an entry-level Android phone.

Get the Amazon Echo Show for just $130 ($100 off)

The Amazon Echo Show arguably kickstarted the smart display market when it launched just over a year ago. But if the $230 asking price has been just out of reach for you, the online retailer has a pleasant surprise in store. The deal applies to both the black and white models and will be live from “now through Prime Day.” The Echo Show is essentially Amazon’s Alexa on a touchscreen, bringing the same voice commands and expansive skill-set to a new form factor.

HTC sends TMo CEO gold One (M8); Samsung copies act w/ gold Galaxy S5

In a bid to steal the limelight late last week as T-Mobile released the two company’s flagship Android phones on the same day, both HTC and Samsung sent precious gifts to the carrier’s chief exec — golden versions of the HTC One (M8) and the Samsung Galaxy S5. Throughout launch day, T-Mobile CEO John Legere was (re)tweeting some promotional stuff about the Galaxy S5. Then, some time during the day, appeared Legere’s post about the 24-karat gold-plated HTC One (M8) — not just the mere Amber Gold variant.

Inside the search giant's New York retail home

C. Scott Brown / Android Authority At this point, Apple has over 500 retail stores around the world. Microsoft had a bunch of stores (but now only has a handful). Even Samsung had permanent retail locations before the COVID-19 pandemic forced it to shut them all down. Google, however, has been content with the online Google Store and some random pop-up establishments throughout the years. LG GA7900 Google TV first look video from CES 2013

We’ve reported last week about LG’s upcoming Google TVs – the new GA6400 and GA7900 series – that the Nexus phone maker introduced at CES 2013 in Las Vegas. While the platform hasn’t taken off as quickly as Google and LG — as well as other partners —  would’ve liked, the third generation Google TV may just strike the right chord with consumers. Since specs can only convey so much, we thought you’d also be interested in seeing a quick video demonstration of the smart TV.
