We’ve all seen the power of the rumor mill, with the crazy speculation whirlwind that preceded the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S3. While some of the pre-launch gossip was spot on (Exynos 4412 quad-core processor), some was, as expected, way off-base (2GB RAM). With this type of display almost ready for production, our expectations weren’t unrealistic, but unfortunately, the final launch left display-fanatics quite disappointed.

(Update: Android app now available) Google launches Spaces, a sharing tool that creates mini social networks on the fly

Update, May 17: The Google Spaces Android app is now available in the Play Store. Original post, May 16: Google has been trying to cut down on the amount of app-hopping that you have to do when using your device on the regular. Their recent changes to Google Translate, for instance, greatly reduced the amount of copy-and-pasting that goes into using the app on your mobile device, and naturally Google Now in its entirety echoes this no-hopping sentiment as well by contextually searching based on the content on your screen.

Samsung’s laptops and tablets will in the future house OLED displays instead of LCDs, according to a report from Korean site ETnews. This follows a current trend in the consumer tech industry where a number of manufacturers are turning to OLED technology for smartphones, tablets, and laptops. OLED displays became less costly to produce than LCDs for the first time last year, and coupled with the increased contrast they provide and (marginally) superior efficiency, the demand for them is expected to continue to grow over the next few years.

Samsung France is giving out 128GB microSD cards to Galaxy Note 7 buyers

If you haven’t been following the seemingly never-ending drama that is the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, let me recap. Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 7 smartphone was hailed with much praise and success when it first launched, but unfortunately the flagship device proved to have a nasty habit of exploding. Samsung lays off many US marketing employees after internal audit

According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, Samsung may have found some shady business practices within its own U.S. marketing team. Two thing are for certain, though: the company abruptly laid off many of its marketing employees and the head of marketing, Marc Mathieu, abruptly resigned last week. Reportedly, Samsung ran the internal audit on its own team. Although we don’t know what the results of that audit were, The Wall Street Journal report heavily implies that it could have been related to kickbacks and bribery related to social media influencers, particularly on YouTube.
