Alternative app store Aptoide calls for Google to 'play fair'

One of the best things about Android is the ability to install apps from anywhere, allowing you to side-step the Play Store if you want to. Now, one prominent third-party app store has launched a campaign against Google, saying the Mountain View company is hampering consumer freedom. On its Google Play Fair website, Aptoide wrote: “Since summer 2018, Google Play Protect flags Aptoide as a harmful app, hiding it in users’ Android devices and requesting them to uninstall it.

Update (01/23/2018): Huawei is rolling out a new update for the Huawei P9 (international variant) that brings with it a couple of notable improvements to the phone's photography suite. The updated build (EVA-L19C185B393) adds Moving Picture mode which lets users take dynamic photos in the Camera app's Standard mode. There are also improvements to the Gallery app, including the ability to search for photos by date, location, or album name, and the addition of Highlights -- a feature that lets users select multiple images and videos to commemorate an occasion or moment.

Vertu sold to Chinese investors (Update: working on its own OS?)

Update: Earlier today we learned that Vertu had been sold to Chinese investors. Now we've learned a tiny bit more about the new owner's plans. According to Engadget, it turns out that Godin Holdings, one of the investors, is a four-month-old shell company of Godin Cyberspace Security Technology, which is currently working on its own secure smartphone OS called GOS. Not much is known about the OS, though it is likely based on Android with a similar concept as we’ve seen from devices like the Blackphone.
