There are countless great phones out there that cater to different tastes and needs, but it takes something special for a phone to become one of our daily drivers. Many of our team will hop between three, four, or even five or more phones every year as we put the very best the industry can offer through their paces, but for a variety of reasons, many of us always come back to one phone of choice again and again.

The reason for this particular choice is because, after some real-world testing, OnePlus feels that Sony offers the best wide-aperture sensors on the market right now. TL;DR Oppo has announced its Hyper Boost performance suite for Android. The suite promises to improve system, application, and gaming performance on Oppo phones. We’ve seen several companies tout system performance enhancements in the past 12 months, such as Huawei‘s GPU Turbo, and Xiaomi‘s AI-enabled system management in MIUI 10. Now, Oppo has stepped up to the plate with its Hyper Boost initiative. According to the Chinese brand, Hyper Boost is a “full-scenario, system-level performance boost engine,” capable of allocating system resources according to a number of scenarios.

Samsung Electronics and Nike have partnered up to introduce the Nike+ Running App for the Samsung Gear S, the curved AMOLED display smartwatch that Samsung announced just yesterday. The app offers up all the functionality that Nike FuelBand and other fitness tracker wearers have become accustomed to, and a few new tricks of its own. Importantly for joggers out there, the app runs independently of any connected handset, meaning that you won’t have to run around with your phone in your pocket.

Panasonic announces 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio LCD panel to rival OLED

While OLED may be seen by many as the future of mobile and large panel displays, LCD manufacturers have recently come along with a number of innovations breathing new life into the panel type, including Quantum Dot and fast refresh rate technology. Today, Panasonic has unveiled its latest LCD IPS display that boasts a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. That’s up to 600 times more contrast than some of the company’s conventional LCD panels, which offer around 1800:1 ratios, and rivals OLED specifications.
