Nvidia to buy Arm for $40 billion from SoftBank

TL;DR Nvidia has confirmed it will be acquiring the processor architecture company Arm from SoftBank. The deal is valued at $40 billion and will be paid for via a mix of cash and Nvidia stock. The deal is expected to close sometime in 18 months, or around early 2022. As previously rumored, Nvidia has confirmed it will be buying the processor architecture company Arm. The graphics chip maker says it will purchase Arm Holdings from its current owner SoftBank for a total of $40 billion.

Qualcomm announces Snapdragon X24 LTE modem and Wireless Edge Services for new devices

Qualcomm concluded its 2018 5G day in San Diego by announcing the newest generation of its Snapdragon X-series LTE modem, the Snapdragon X24. The X24 is the first modem based on a 7nm LPE process, which offers a number of enhancements over the second generation X20 modem. Where the X20 modem was a 20 percent speed increase over the X16, with 12 spacial streams over three carriers to hit a max throughput of 1.

4G LTE network now covers 61% of the Canadian population

Telus has some good news to share for folks who need a blazing fast mobile Internet connection in their lives, the kind that only LTE can provide. Although it wasn’t the first to offer 4G LTE wireless service, the carrier has been aggressively expanding its LTE network coverage in the country. The latest expansions see Telus’ 4G LTE network covering 61% of the Canadian population. That’s roughly 20 million happy Canadians.
