Happy birthday, Gmail! It’s been an awesome 10 years!

Of course, the biggest and most exciting April Fools Day unveiling happened on April 1st of 2004. What was so significant about that day? Google actually revealed a real product and not just a prank, one that has been going strong ever since: Gmail. Due to the timing of the announcement, many folks originally thought that the invite-only (until 2007) Gmail service was nothing more than a gag, especially considering the company’s ambitious plans to provide a full gigabyte of storage — 500 times as much as Hotmail offered.

As with most manufacturers, Samsung typically takes months to bring the latest version of Android to its flagships. Despite this and the fact that Samsung hasn’t announced when it plans to make the firmware upgrade available, XDA-Developers was able to use a tool called Firmware.Science to install Samsung Experience 10.0 based on Android 9 Pie onto the Galaxy S9 Plus. Looking at the below screenshots of Samsung Experience 10.0, it’s pretty clear that the South Korean company is still in the alpha stage of development.

A lot of other users have been complaining on Reddit and XDA about a strange audio clipping issue occurring on their handsets. The problem seems to be affecting users with Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 powered handsets who are plugging in low-impedance (sub 16 ohm) headphones into the smartphone’s 3mm jack. The issue manifests as an irritating buzzing or crackling sound if the volume is turned up past a certain point, but the exact cause has been a little harder to diagnose.

TL;DR Amazon just announced the Show Mode Charging Dock, which turns your Fire HD tablet into a makeshift Echo Show. The dock is available for the Amazon Fire HD 10 and Fire HD 8 tablets. Verizon 5G: Coverage, phones, plans and more

Update, January 31, 2020 (4:43AM ET):  Verizon has extended its 5G network to three more US cities. These include: Little Rock, Kansas City, and Cincinnati. These three new cities join the list of 31 other cities covered by Verizon 5G in 2019. In Little Rock, Verizon’s 5G service will be available in parts of Midtown, University District, Birchwood, Otter Creek, and near landmarks such as: UAMS College of Medicine, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Rock Creek Square Plaza Shopping Center, and Outlets of Little Rock.

OnePlus Red Cable Club comes to Europe, hints at new audio product

TL;DR OnePlus has launched its Red Cable Club rewards program in Europe. This offers discounts on several product categories on the OnePlus website. You’ll also get early access to buy an upcoming audio product. The OnePlus Red Cable Club launched in India in 2019, promising a variety of benefits for OnePlus fans. It’s only taken almost two years, but the rewards program has finally launched in Europe. The European take on the Red Cable Club currently offers a variety of discounts on items purchased via OnePlus.

The OnePlus Shelf feature in Oxygen OS is going away

If you are using the Oxygen OS launcher on your OnePlus phone, a swipe to the right of your main home screen will show you the OnePlus Shelf feature. However, the new OnePlus 8 series of phones appear to do away with Shelf, and that could mean the end of the feature for other phones, too. In place of the OnePlus Shelf feature on the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro is the Google Discover feed.
