LG G2 to be the first phone with 3GB of RAM, followed by Note 3

The LG G2, the successor to the Optimus G2, shapes up to be one beast of a phone. The new Snapdragon 800 version of the Galaxy S4 stole a bit of its limelight by being the world’s first LTE-Advanced device, but LG will still have one “first” to boast about – the world’s first phone with 3GB of RAM. Competition is hot on the heels of the G2, according to the Korean publication Hankyung.

Instagram gets a redesigned app and colorful icon on Android and iOS

Not only is the photo sharing app getting a redesigned layout, it’s also finally getting a newer, simpler app icon. The differences between the old and new app icons are pretty stark. You can still tell its a camera, but the new icon is much simpler and more colorful than the old one. Instagram’s other apps — Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse — are also getting redesigned icons with the same style.

Pokémon Go PVP mode Trainer Battles coming this December

Update, December 13, 2018 (10:36AM EST): Niantic announced that Trainer Battles are now rolling out in Pokémon Go. You must be at least level 10 to participate in Trainer Battles. T-Mobile to create app store for Android and other platforms

Today mocoNews put up a story that cites “multiple sources” as informing it of T-Mobile USA’s plans for an open application store for all of its platforms, including Android. The new application store would replace the carrier’s currently closed deck that its customers are restricted to.Supposedly the plan is to do something similar to Apple’s App Store for the iPhone. In the Apple store, Apple takes a 30% revenue cut from the sale of any non-free application, with the remaining 70% going to the developer.

Top Japanese university bans all watches from entrance exams

Smartwatches have become a big business, with Apple’s Watch leading the charge (sales wise) thanks to its $1.7 billion profit picture. Samsung recently released two highly praised timepieces, as did TAG Heuer and even Fossil. The market looks to be expanding, in some ways, much as how the tablet industry once took off. But as these devices become not just more prevalent, but also more present, ethical issues begin to arise. One such matter, the idea of using a smartwatch to cheat during exams, has been taken very seriously here in Japan.
