Samsung launched its Galaxy Watch 4 series last year, with the standard model offering solid battery life while the smaller Classic disappointed in this regard. It sounds like the company might have a solution in the works for those wanting a watch with great endurance.

To say we were surprised more than a month ago when hearing from HTC on the company’s “official plans” for updating its “heroes” to Jelly Bean would be a huge understatement. At the time, pretty much no OEM had the guts to speak up about Android 4.1 upgrades, so to see HTC promising software leaps for three of its best phones was really something.

German camera maker Leica has worked with many smartphone makers before but never launched a phone under its own banner. That changes today with the Leitz Phone 1. This is the first smartphone that not only features a Leica-made camera system but also gets its signature branding.

Xiaomi’s value-oriented brand Redmi has done wonders in the Indian market with its phone offerings over the years. The latest from the house of Redmi is the RedmiBook, which launched this week and is now available to buy in India in two flavors. We got our hands on the RedmiBook Pro, which is the higher-spec’d version of the laptop.
While Redmi’s first laptop offering officially available outside of China seems good on paper, does it have the oomph needed in what is frankly, a crowded market segment?

Android Oreo is now rolling out for the Huawei Mate 9 in the U.S. The update also introduces Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 software skin and the January 2018 security patch. Huawei promises to deliver monthly updates to higher-end phones like the Mate 9. Earlier today, Droid Life spotted that the cookie-branded update is rolling out to models MHA-L29 and MHA-L09. The former is the one sold in the U.S. through Best Buy and other retailers, though both models are the international variants.
One of the announcements during Google’s I/O opening keynote on Wednesday was Android Go, a new initiative to solve the problem of Android performance on devices with limited resources. Android Go takes it a step further and not only aims to solve problems around the price of hardware, but also the problem of limited data caps and lingual flexibility for those who don’t have English as a primary language.
Looking at all of this, it would be easy to assume that Go is solely designed for emerging markets, but this isn’t entirely the case.

HTC CEO Cher Wang says she has something big for us to look forward to at CES 2016. At today’s Vive Unbound developers forum in China, Cher Wang said that her team and Valve have made “a very, very big technological breakthrough” with their Vive virtual reality system. While we aren’t entirely sure what this big upgrade is about, Wang did say that it’ll be shown off for the very first time at CES 2016 in early January.
