Razer reportedly canceled Razer Phone 3, laid off chunk of staff

Update, February 20, 2019 (1:10AM EST): Razer has issued a second statement to Droid Life, following news that the manufacturer would be laying off roughly two percent of its workforce. “We see great opportunities in the mobile gaming space that we created with the Razer Phone and will continue to invest in this category through a combination of hardware and software initiatives,” the company noted. “We are working on new exciting mobile projects and will share the news when we are ready.

Verizon's Motorola X-Phone XT1060 Passes Through FCC

The XT1060 version sports CDMA frequencies, LTE Band 4, Band 13 and GSM capabilities. We know that the XT1060 is the Verizon Wireless variant because radio frequencies 850 MHz and  1900 MHz just happen to be used by Verizon Wireless for CDMA capabilities, LTE Band 13 is be used by Verizon, and they have future plans for Band 4.

Let us be very clear, this is a signed release of Android 5.0 Lollipop for the 2012 Nexus 7 WiFi tablet. It lives on Google’s servers and has a build number that is completely in line with other known Lollipop builds, however, we have no way of knowing with one hundred percent certainty that it is the same final release expected OTA for Google’s original Nexus tablet any day now. But it’s close enough for me.

Gionee M2017 officially revealed in China with its huge dual battery

While most of us were still recovering from our holiday dinner and activities, Gionee in China was launching a new smartphone earlier this morning. The Gionee M2017, which was leaked earlier in November, is now official, and its biggest feature is its huge battery. The Gionee M2017 actually has two 3,500mAh batteries inside, giving the smartphone a total battery size of 7,000mAh. Gionee claims this will give the phone up to nearly 26 hours of continuous video playback.

HTC One V to come to several US carriers in summer

After the HTC One X and HTC One S, the last of the One series, HTC One V, has finally received a release window in the US. Aiming to grab a good slice of the low to mid-end range smartphone market in the US, HTC announced today that the One V will be launched this summer at “a variety of US partners.” Despite packing the least exciting set of specs, the One V bears the hallmarks of HTC’s superfine build quality, much like the other One phones.

Google researchers develop Pixel phone AI that stops screen-snooping

Maybe it’s just me, but whenever I’m using my phone while traveling via a subway system I always feel like someone behind me is closely inspecting each tap and swipe I make. If only a fancy bit of AI tech could cure my paranoia Luckily for me (or unluckily for any subway snoops), two Google researchers have done just that with a project dubbed the “electronic screen protector”. The brains behind the AI-powered software, Hee Jung Ryu and Florian Schroff, will fully debut their work next week at the Neural Information Processing Systems conference in California.

Google Wallet Gmail integration arrives in the UK

Google Wallet users in the US may have been able to send money through Gmail for a while now, but the feature has only just made its way to the shores of the UK. From today, UK Google Wallet users can begin sending money to email recipients, simply by clicking the little “£” symbol at the bottom of your composition. All that’s left to do is type in the amount, select the source for your funds and send.

Galaxy Note 2 menu reveals S Cloud product, iCloud cloud-computing alternative from Samsung

Earlier this year, among the plethora of pre-release Galaxy S3-related rumors we’ve seen was one that mentioned the next Samsung smartphone will come pre loaded with the company’s own cloud solution. Dubbed S Cloud, the Samsung cloud was seen as a direct response to Apple’s iCloud that became available to iOS, OS X and Windows users once iOS 5 was released back in October 2011. Samsung never unveiled the S Cloud in May, or later, and we had to put a pin in the rumor.
