Android Q Thermal API will let apps act when your phone gets too hot

Smartphone processors have made amazing progress over the years, but they still heat up and consume loads of juice when running advanced tasks. Google is taking action in Android Q though, thanks to a so-called Thermal API. Apps and games can use this API to take relevant measures when they detect that a device’s temperature is too high, Google notes on its developer website. “For example, streaming apps could reduce resolution/bit rate or network traffic, a camera app could disable flash or intensive image enhancement, a game could reduce frame rate or polygon tesselation, a media app could reduce speaker volume, and a maps app could turn off GPS,” the company wrote.

Samsung browser receives ad block support

Ad blocking remains a contentious issue, but Samsung looks to be coming down on the side of anti-ads. Today, the smartphone giant is updating its Android browser to support content and ad blocking add-ons. The Internet 4.0 browser, which is installed by default on Samsung’s phones and tablets, is seeing an update today on devices which are running Android Lollipop or newer. Samsung’s isn’t providing ad blocking capabilities as standard, but is now opening the door for users to install ad blocking add-ons from third parties if they wish.

Another Chinese smartphone brand, Comio, enters India market with an offline-only model and big ambitions

Launched in 2014, Comio is the smartphone brand from Chinese Original Device Manufacturer (ODM) Topwise Communication. India is the first market the company has ventured in after China. According to a Livemint report, the company aims to capture 5% market share in three years of operations in India. Comio CEO Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, is an industry veteran with over 15 years of experience at Intex, the domestic handset maker, and he’s betting on the huge opportunity in the country, especially in the INR 6,000-12,000 price segment which accounts for 35-40% of smartphone market in terms of volume.

Apple AirPods 3 could adopt the Pro's design, new case

TL;DR A new leak suggests the Apple AirPods 3 may adopt some stylings from the Pro version. This includes silicone ear tips and a shorter stalk with touch-sensitive controls. The AirPods 3 will likely be released in Q3 2021. Update: March 17, 2021 (10:18 AM ET): According to AppleInsider market analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the AirPods 3 won’t hit the market until Q3 2021. Kuo expects a marked decline of AirPods series sales leading up to the Q3 release.

Sprint to start offering 4G LTE in 28 new markets “in coming months”

As the third largest mobile operator in the U.S., Sprint is busy playing catch up to Verizon and AT&T with its 4G LTE network rollout. After expanding its LTE reach to six new citiesback in December, the tally is now up to 49 markets. New AT&T plan gives customers 30 months to pay off phones

AT&T has announced a new plan today that will provide customers with an additional option when it comes to purchasing a smartphone. The new plan is called Next 24, and allows customers to pay off their phones in 30 months without having to put any amount down. The other Next plans (12 and 18) will also stay in effect, and with the introduction of Next 24, customers will have the option of 20, 24, or now 30 months to pay off their smartphone.
