Sony goes all in with Android TV for their 2015 Bravia Smart TVs

In what most are considering a huge victory, or at least a monstrous step forward for Android TV, Sony has committed to using the Google built platform for all of its Bravia line smart TVs in 2015. The press conference packed CES 2015 launch day has been filled with all sorts of announcements from a large handful of the largest players in technology. Among these press events has been a lot of talk of the television set, and Sony was no exception.

Vivo Y66 with 16MP front camera launches in India

In a media event in New Delhi, Vivo launched its latest mid-range smartphone, the Vivo Y66 in India. Just like the Vivo V5 and the V5 Plus launched in last few months, the Y66 is a selfie-focused smartphone and boasts of a 16MP front camera with ‘Moonlight Glow’ feature. The feature induces a natural glow on the face without straining eyes that lights up the picture irrespective of the lighting conditions.

Google looks to be working on a Play Store loyalty program

TL;DR Teardowns of recent Play Store APKs hint at a new loyalty program called “Play Points.” Points would be earned for spending money on apps, movies, music, and more. Users might be able to use their reward points for in-app purchases and Play Store credit. Unless you’re trying to install Fortnite, the Play Store is where most Android users immediately go when they want to install a new app.

Google says Voice Search is now faster and more accurate

If you feel like Google’s voice recognition is working a little better than it used to, that’s because it is! Today Google reported that their widely-used voice search capability is now being handled by a new engine that recognizes and anticipates words with a much higher degree of accuracy. Google says that these advancements are thanks to the development of more effective neural network acoustic models through the use of “Connectionist Temporal Classification (CTC) and sequence discriminative training techniques.

Google's got a slam dunk with their latest Android commercial

Did you need a 15 second distraction to get you pumped up about Android today? Good, that is exactly what Google’s latest Android commercial is for, jam packed with cameras, it is a slam dunk, of sorts. There is very little to say about the commercial itself, more Androidify characters grace the screen, sports are involved, and everyone is taking a photo with their Android device. It is fun. Highlighting the wide range of camera sizes, styles and capabilities available across Android devices is subtly masked behind the action here.

It’s coming – HTC One for Verizon stops by the FCC

Much to the dismay of some of its customers, Verizon initially denied that it planned to carry the HTC One, suggesting that the Droid DNA would have to do for the moment. In early June, however, Big Red made a U-turn and announced that the aluminum masterpiece will finally grace its networks “later this summer”. We’re in the middle of the summer already, so surely the One should be close, right?

Mobile is now available on Android

Square-Enix bringing Final Fantasy 7 and FF13 to Android, via new streaming service

While Square-Enix has long offered many classic Square games on Android, including earlier Final Fantasy games, it looks like they’re about to bring many modern titles to our phones and tablets as well. Recently Square-Enix announced Dive In, a new streaming platform for Android and iOS. The new service will launch on October 9th in Japan with three titles: Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 13 and the Cherry Blossom Murders.Square-Enix will also add several new titles in the months to come such as FF8 and the Last Remnant in November, and FF 13-2, Murdered: Soul Suspect, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy 13 in December.

Focus Mode leaves Digital Wellbeing beta, gains handy new features

Google brought Focus Mode to its Digital Wellbeing suite back in August, giving you another way to stay productive. The function was initially available in beta, but it’s now available as a stable release and has gained a few new features too. Focus Mode allows you to mark specific apps as distracting, preventing you from launching them when the mode is enabled. Need access to those apps for whatever reason? Then you can simply disable Focus Mode or remove it from the list of distracting apps.
