Android 10 will warn users when USB port overheats or gets contaminated

Do you tend to drop your phone in the bathroom sink (or worse, in the you know what) a lot? Do you leave your device on charge for hours at end? If yes, you risk messing up your phone by plugging in a cable too soon or overheating the device by leaving it plugged in too long. With Android 10, Google is promising help in this regard. Baked into Android 10 is a feature that will disable the USB port on your phone if it detects liquid or debris.

Best and worst Android brands for trade-ins revealed

Smartphones generally don’t hold their trade-in value after a few years, but phones from some brands do hold their value more than others. Now, a new study has revealed the big winners and losers. Trade-in company BankMyCell has published a report which found that iPhones typically lose 45.46% of their value after two years. Meanwhile, the average Android flagship loses 45.18% of its value after just a single year, and 71.41% of its total value after two years.

Google Pixel 4 announcement taking place October 15?

With all of the hype surrounding Google’s upcoming Pixel 4, we have all been waiting to hear official news of a Google announcement event. Though it’s not official yet, Evan Blass (@evleaks) recently alluded to a possible October 15 Pixel 4 release date. Blass tweeted “Google Fall Event: 10/15?” with what appears to be a photo of the Pixel 4. Though there is no reference as to where this information came from, Blass has been a reliable source for leaked information for years.

Most phones will have glass backs by 2020, so get used to it

TL;DR According to Counterpoint, the overall penetration for smartphones with glass backs will reach 26 percent of total smartphone shipments by the end of 2018. By 2020, Counterpoint posits that number will be 60 percent. Glass is cheaper than metal, and that combined with wireless charging capabilities makes it likely glass will be the first choice of OEMs going forward. According to Counterpoint Research, the market trend of glass-backed smartphones is not only going to continue but likely grow exponentially over the next few years.

Pushbullet now allows you to create new text messages from Chrome desktop

It’s pretty apparent that the folks over at Pushbullet never sleep. Not too long ago, they revamped their entire app to follow Google’s wonderful Material Design guidelines. With an update to the service rolling out today, users can now create new text messages, right from the Chrome extension. For quite some time now, users have had the ability to reply to text messages from their desktop. Once a text was received on your Android device, a reply window would pop up, just as long as you’re logged into Chrome.

5G specification sets 100Mbps minimum download speed

It’s been a long time coming, but the finishing touches are being put to the upcoming 5G networking specification. The ITU has just published a draft report for IMT-2020 radio interfaces, also known as 5G, which will be finalized sometime in November 2017. Once the specification is complete, there’s still a period of hardware consultation, followed by countries dividing up spectrum before carrier can actually turn on their networks. There’s still a long road ahead, but this draft gives us quite a good idea about what to expect from 5G.
