Microsoft enables Android call syncing on Windows

Update: December 11, 2019 at 5:12 p.m. ET: Microsoft announced Wednesday on Twitter that the Your Phone app calling feature is now available to all supported devices — not just those in the Windows Insiders community. Download the Your Phone app at the link below. One big reason iPhone users stay within Apple’s ecosystem is that all of its devices communicate with one another. Microsoft’s Your Phone app helps bring similar connectivity between Android and Windows devices.

Monument Valley 2 finally launches on Android for $4.99

The sequel to one of the best mobile games of all time has finally landed on Android. London-based ustwo launched Monument Valley on Android back in 2014 after a short stint as an iOS exclusive. Since then, the game has garnered a very impressive 4.7/5 star rating on Google Play, in turn setting the bar for what a mobile game could be. It was simple, beautiful, addicting, and had a stellar soundtrack that kept players coming back for more.

Using Samsung DeX as a PC for a week - can you leave your computer behind?

Maybe I’m a tech masochist with a passion for frustration and struggles, but somehow I always find myself volunteering for these sorts of experiments – the kind you never really expect to work out as advertized. I’ve tried replacing a PC with a Chromebook, an Android tablet and even an iPad. So when Samsung said the Galaxy Note 8, and the S8 before it, can be combined with DeX to “leave your computer behind”, I just had to find out if it’s true.

Dead Trigger 2 update brings gameplay balance improvements and more

Back in October, Madfinger Games released the highly anticipated Dead Trigger 2 to Google Play, delivering a gaming experience that featured quite a few improvements over the original — even if many folks resented the presence of in-app purchases. Now a reasonably good game is getting even better as version 0.2.5 has now hit Google Play bringing 50 new game plays including new African environments, redesigned warfare rewards and so much more. Besides the new content, a big focus of the update seems to be re-balancing zombie difficulty and basically tweaking the game in ways that should make it much more enjoyable to play.

LG G7 ThinQ might have a Google Assistant button

TL;DR LG’s upcoming G7 ThinQ will reportedly feature a dedicated Google Assistant button. The button functions similarly to Samsung’s Bixby’s button, for better and worse. The button also plays into Google’s and LG’s respective strategies. You can already call up Google Assistant with your voice or with the Google app. If you pick up LG’s rumored G7 ThinQ, however, you might be able to call up Google’s virtual personal assistant with the push of a button.

Samsung launches Galaxy XCover 5 with removable battery, compact size

TL;DR Samsung has launched the Galaxy XCover 5. The phone packs a removable battery. It will be available later this month. Update: March 5, 2021 (5:15 AM ET): Samsung has quietly launched the Galaxy XCover 5. Unsurprisingly, the leaked specs we wrote about in the original article turned out to be correct. Apart from the durability features mentioned below, Samsung says it has improved shock resistance on the phone.

Google Home will now show you the weather on your Chromecast

TL;DR Asking your Google Home, “OK Google, show me the weather on my TV” will bring up a weather report on your television. The command only works if you have a standalone Google Home unit and a connected second-gen Chromecast. Even then, YMMV. This is the first visualization of Google Assistant and shows promise of things potentially to come. People with Google Home devices have probably at least once or twice said, “OK Google, what’s the weather tomorrow?

Leaked Samsung Galaxy S10 model numbers seemingly confirm 3 models

TL;DR Leaked model numbers for the Samsung Galaxy S10 seemingly confirms the rumor that there will be three models next year. The model numbers are SM-G970, SM-G975, and SM-G973. The first two are likely the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus, with the third one likely being a cheaper “entry” model. The fact that there are three model numbers seemingly confirms that there will be at least three variants of the Samsung Galaxy S10, which is one more than the usual two.

Some Chinese phones have money-stealing malware

TL;DR Security researchers found that some Chinese phones (most notably Tecno-made) shipped with money-stealing malware. It subscribed users to paid services and couldn’t even be removed. The phone maker blamed it on a vendor in the supply chain. Secure-D and BuzzFeed News have learned that some low-cost Tecno W2 phones shipped to countries around the world infected with malware meant to steal money from customers. The Triada and xHelper software would quietly download apps and subscribe to paid services.

'Notification Dots' bring notifications to your icons [Diving into Android O]

Google first introduced long press actions back in Android Nougat, but today they are looking to expand upon them with the introduction of Notification Dots. These dots essentially show you when you have messages and notifications on your various applications, and allow you to preview them and quick launch the app if you want to respond. Nova Launcher has had this as a paid setting for quite a while now, but it’s good to see the option baked in natively through the Pixel launcher.
