TL;DR
HMD Global is finally releasing the Nokia 8.3 5G, about six months after it announced the smartphone. This is the first 5G-capable phone from the brand and features the most 5G antennas in any single phone. Sales start today at €599 in Europe and £499 in the UK. Pricing and availability for the US are still unknown. HMD Global first announced the Nokia 8.
We’re approaching the traditional launch cycle for Samsung’s next phablet and both, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, are leaking more frequently; two separate reports today have revealed the supposed launch date for the smartphones but it’s earlier than past years.
First, DigiTimes reported that the Galaxy Note 5 would be announced on August 12th with a launch in major markets just two days later on August 14th and now, SamMobile is reporting that its sources have confirmed the August 12 launch but point towards a release nine days later on August 21.
OnePlus has had a phenomenal 2018, delivering the fantastic OnePlus 6, landing a deal with T-Mobile, and launching the slick OnePlus 6T (albeit without a headphone jack).
The company isn’t finished for the year though, as it’s announced late yesterday that OxygenOS 9.0.0 and Android Pie are officially rolling out to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T.
The update brings a new UI, new navigation gestures (on the OnePlus 5T only), gaming mode 3.
TL;DR
The Poco M2 is now official in India, essentially being a rebranded Redmi 9. The phone features a 6.53-inch screen, a 5,000mAh battery, and a quad-rear camera array. The device goes on sale on September 15 on Flipkart. Hot on the heels of the Poco X3 launch, the Xiaomi sub-brand has now announced its latest affordable offering in the form of the Poco M2. And it looks like a rebadged Xiaomi Redmi 9.

The latest additions to the flagship Samsung Galaxy S line brought with them the major overhaul in terms of design and build quality that was long overdue. Apart from their now more premium glass and metal unibody designs, Samsung also created a lighter, and therefore far more fluid and stutter-free, iteration of their TouchWiz UI, which was perfectly optimized with their in-house processing package, making for snappy and incredibly fast devices.
Ghostly Chromecast popups in the night have been plaguing Android users for years. But this particular brand of unexplained mystery seems to have been accelerating of late, with multiple reports of a Chromecast “cast to a nearby device” popup cropping up on the Chromecast help forum.
Victims are all reporting the same thing: a random popup to “cast to a nearby device” – even when no Chromecast is nearby. The issue seems to follow no particular rhyme or reason, with owners of various makes of smartphone affected across multiple Android and Google Play Services versions.

Netflix prices for United States and Canada customers just went up. The new pricing starts immediately and raises prices by $1 to $2. Netflix says the hike will allow it to “continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options.” In the United States and Canada, Netflix hasn’t increased its pricing since October 2020. Now, according to Netflix’s pricing page, it appears the company is ready to end its streak.
People love emoji, that’s no secret. But I mean we really, really love them. Emoji and their fancier brethren, stickers, have seriously taken off in recent years. So much so that in South Korea this week, the Korea Creative Content Agency announced that the most popular characters in the country are no longer found in Korean cartoons, on animated TV shows or even in the pages of Japanese manga. No, in 2017, the most popular characters in all of South Korea are found in KakaoTalk sticker packs.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fan Edition series has been a bit of a mixed bag. 2020’s Galaxy S20 FE (pictured) was a well-executed and competitively priced alternative to Samsung’s $999+ flagship lineup. However, Samsung couldn’t repeat that success with the Galaxy S21 FE, which launched and was priced a little too close to the already attractive Galaxy S22.
Rumors are circling that Samsung may be shelving the FE series, which would mean no Galaxy S22 FE or any future affordable flagship models.
