World Emoji Day 2021: Here's what Google is changing

TL;DR July 16 is World Emoji Day 🎉. For the 2021 iteration, Google is updating 992 of the cartoon images. Some of the updates will simply make them cuter. However, some updates will make them more accurate or more flexible in meaning. Additionally, certain apps will now see Emoji updates faster, without needing to wait for an OS update. Usually, around this time, we start seeing new Emoji land on our phones, apps, and other devices.

Dragon Mobile Assistant for Android is an excellent app while driving

Driving and mobile devices don’t mix well if your smartphone or tablet ends up breaking your focus on driving. But with voice-enabled apps, you can still interact with your device for much-needed information. Chief among these are location and reading messages aloud. Dragon Mobile Assistant now offers these enhancements in its latest update. Nuance — which powers the technology behind Siri — launched Dragon Mobile Assistant in 2012, which came with dictation features, which would usually come in handy when you need to type in a message while using the device hands-free.

This is Motorola’s first Android One phone, likely coming to the US

The next manufacturer to join the Android One program could be Motorola, according to a leak from Evan Blass. Blass just shared a render of an Android One-branded Motorola device. The phone looks identical to the mid-range Moto X4, which Motorola introduced during IFA earlier this month, except for the Android One badge at the bottom of the device. Blass didn’t reveal any other details about the phone, but previous reports suggest we might be looking at the first Android One phone for the United States.

Unlocked Samsung Galaxy A50 can now be pre-ordered on Amazon

Samsung’s Galaxy A series has been rejuvenated in 2019 thanks to its decision to beef up specs and offer solid pricing. The Samsung Galaxy A50 is arguably the pick of the lot, but it’s only available via networks.  Thankfully, the unlocked variant is now available to pre-order via Amazon (h/t: SamMobile), coming in at $350. And if you pre-order now, you’ll also get a Samsung Galaxy Fit fitness tracker. Either way, the retailer says the item will be released on September 20.

Best augmented reality (AR) games for Android

Augment Reality (AR) became a realization way back in the 70’s, when Morton Heilig created the Sensorama, a device that can render 3D images, sound, wind, as well as aromas, to create a virtual reality for the user. Fast forward to the present age–augmented reality is now a possible feat and almost anyone can enjoy the thrill and excitement just by having an Android smartphone.  Have you ever wished that you could experience augmented reality?

Samsung pulls own ads after ditching headphone jack

TL;DR Prominent Samsung ads that criticized Apple iPhones are no longer on Samsung’s U.S. YouTube channel. The ads poked fun at Apple’s decisions to remove the headphone jack and use display notches, among other things that the Galaxy Note 10 now does. Luckily, the ads are still available to watch via third-party uploaders. The company’s decision to remove the much-beloved smartphone port isn’t too surprising considering multiple other OEMs — including Huawei, OnePlus, Google, and obviously Apple — have already done so.

Google one-ups Venmo, let’s you send cash via Google Assistant

TL;DR Starting today, you can send or request money from contacts using voice commands in Google Assistant. The money is processed through Google Pay, so you’ll need to set up your account there before sending or receiving money. We haven’t been able to get the service working yet, so there are still some questions on how the process works in real-world situations. There’s no question that Venmo is the app-of-choice for Millennials when it comes to giving or receiving cash.
