You read that right. The original designer of the classic HoloChess scene in A New Hope, Phil Tippett, has a Kickstarter campaign running for a game called HoloGrid: Monster Battle. It’s not quite the HoloChess you know from the movie because the AR tech isn’t there yet, but it is the foundation for what will evolve into full-blown HoloChess when the technology catches up. Google's December security update brings KRACK fix and other security fixes

Google posted its December security bulletin for Android earlier today, and if you were hoping for an update full of fixes and tweaks, you might want to look elsewhere. The most notable aspect regarding the December security patch is its inclusion of the KRACK fix. It is a welcome sight, seeing how it was notably absent from the November security patch and how almost half of all Android devices were vulnerable to the security flaw.

Play the role of God on Godus, now available in the Play Store

If you’re on the lookout for an Android game where your role is a bit more sovereign than that of a simple builder or architect, you’ll be pleased to know that Godus (a game that actually puts in in the role of God) is no longer exclusively available for PC and iOS, and has officially landed on Google Play. Fans of the older Black and White game from 2001 (another game where you play the role of God) that long to once again play the role of a heavenly creator will feel right at home in Godus, although there are naturally a lot of differences in the two games.

Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 845 VR development kit

GDC 2018 is in full swing this week, and a number of companies have divulged new information on games and software that they’ve been working on for months. Qualcomm is one of these companies, and today announced a new Snapdragon 845 VR development kit that it says will help pave the way for more immersive standalone VR experiences. One of the new features present in the Snapdragon 845 mobile platform is 6DoF SLAM, which stands for six degrees of freedom (6DoF) with simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM).

Samsung Galaxy Gear gets its very first custom ROM

The Samsung Galaxy Gear was meant to be Samsung’s big break into the smartwatch game, but so far the device has been met with relatively lukewarm reception. Most critics admit that the device has potential but that it is held back by limited apps, limited device support and an overall experience that feels “unfinished”.
