BlackBerry acquires Good Technology to expand its services to other platforms

It’s barely a secret that BlackBerry is working on expanding its influence to other platforms. And not only as a service provider, the company is said to be working on the BlackBerry Venice, an Android smartphone with a slide-out keyboard. But how will they keep this Google-powered handset as secure as their industry-leading BB10 products? Their latest acquisition could very well be part of the strategy. BlackBerry has just purchased Good Technology for $425 million.

Infiltrator for Android released on Google Play. Late to the party?

Electronic Arts (EA) has just unveiled the action-packed Mass Effect Infiltrator, now available on Google Play. As you might have guessed from the title, the third-person shooter is another game in the Mass Effect franchise, and ties in nicely with the console/PC game Mass Effect 3, which has caused such an uproar earlier this year because of its disappointing ending. One of the most attractive things about playing ME:Infiltrator is the fact that you can influence the outcome in ME3.

Google Stadia's biggest problem isn't games or latency, it's the data usage

Google Stadia officially launched on Tuesday and it’s been a hot topic all week, leaving people divided about the potential of the cloud-based game streaming service. Some say it’s the future of gaming while others are predicting a premature death, but no one really knows how the platform will grow over the next few years. Create a CPU benchmark tool (part one)

A benchmark test is a tool that you can use to compare the speed and performance of any given set-up/device. The idea is simple: the program runs a series of complex, arbitrary operations and then measures how long it takes. If the same function takes longer on one device than another, then you can generally conclude that the faster device is the more powerful one. You’ve probably seen benchmark tools used in a number of device reviews, with popular choices on Android being AnTuTu and Geekbench (check out a selection of benchmark tools here).

ES File Explorer returns some SD card support to your KitKat device (root required)

In a recent update to the Android operating system, Google made some changes to how external SD cards can be handled by apps within the system. The result, basically, is that applications have been stripped of their former ability and permissions to read and write files on an sd card. With file explorer apps being some of the hardest hit by this change, ES File Explorer has decided to fight back, having launched an update to their app that brings back full SD card read/write access, at least for those that have their phone rooted.
