Kyocera crams action cam into rugged DuraForce Pro

Hoping to make you forget all about that GoPro of yours, Kyocera has stuffed an action camera into the ruggedized body of its upcoming DuraForce Pro smartphone. It was bound to happen sooner or later, as smartphones have a long history of gobbling up anything you’d normally carry in your purse or pockets alongside your handsets. So the action camera is just the latest accessory to go the way of the PDA, portable game console, GPS receiver and other older technology before it.

Motorola X release date and pricing revealed by new report

The earlier report revealed that the handset will be a multi-carrier device, unlike Moto’s Droid family members that were available from Verizon only, and that it will run stock Android OS with no custom UI even though it won’t be marketed as a Nexus device. Now, the Motorola X is said to be launched on July 8 after being announced in mid-May at Google I/O, although don’t be surprised to see that date change.

This Moto G5 Plus deal gets you an unlocked, open-box unit for $94

The Motorola Moto G5 Plus is over a year old at this point, but it’s still a very capable smartphone at its list price of $300. Just imagine how great a buy it would be if it was less than $100! Well, today it is: eBay is currently offloading the Motorola Moto G5 Plus for only $94, which includes free shipping. It’s an insane Moto G5 Plus deal! The only caveat is that these devices are in “open box” condition.

We went behind the scenes with the OnePlus camera team. Here's what we learned.

OnePlus' Camera Lab: A robot arm used to simulate multiple shooting scenarios Note: OnePlus reached out to us after the article was published to clarify that the firmware sent to DxOMark for testing was, in fact, the same as the retail firmware out of the box. The story has been updated to reflect the same. Amidst all the controversy around the “overhyped” and less-than-stellar cameras on the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, the company invited Android Authority to take a behind the scenes look at what it’s been cooking up to improve imaging on its products.

Google is bringing sponsored app search results to the Play Store

Google is making a lot of money from its bread and butter business, showing ads against search results. Now the tech giant is bringing ads for apps to the Play Store. Here’s how it works – search for a term like “travel apps” or “fitness” and the first app shown in the search results page could be a paid listing by Expedia or Endomondo. Just like on Google.com, the Play Store will show you relevant results from developers who are willing to pay for the privilege.

Sprint's Samsung Epic 4G Touch price to drop to $99.99 on June 21?

The Galaxy S3 US launch is finally (almost) upon us. For Android fans in the US, that’s great news, not only because they’ll get to play with one of the best smartphones ever, but also because some older devices will become more accessible than ever. We’ve suspected for a while that the Samsung’s Galaxy S2, still a more than decent phone, will see discounts in the coming weeks, and now we have a confirmation of sorts from TechnoBuffalo.

Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight unveiled, to go on sale on May 1 for $139

Even though Barnes & Noble’s Nook Tablet has been clearly overshadowed by Amazon’s Kindle Fire, the basic Nook e-readers are still on top of  the shopping and wish lists of many users. However, the e-ink gadget was clearly in need of a refresh, as the Nook Simple Touch, the second generation of e-book readers from Barnes & Noble, was released almost a year ago. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait much more for a new and improved Nook Simple Touch, as the latest model has just gone up for pre-order, with shipments set to start on May 1.

The LG G7 ThinQ's MLCD+ display technology explained

OLED vs LCD is a seemingly never-ending debate among smartphone enthusiasts, but the LG G7 ThinQ has just come along to derail the whole topic with its new MLCD+ display technology. The company seems to have already ditched LG Display’s revitalized POLED panels for something else it’s been quietly cooking up at its R&D labs. We managed to nab an early look at the company’s MLCD+ technology during a tour of LG Display in South Korea last year.
