T-Mobile rolling out Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy S5

From today, T-Mobile Galaxy S5 owners can grab the 900MB Android 5.0 Lollipop update OTA or via the Samsung Kies software package. The update contains the tweaked Material Design-esque Touchwiz UI, new notification and lockscreen features, and performance and the battery life improvements that we have seen with previous Galaxy S5 Lollipop updates. As usual, you can manually check for the update through Settings > About phone > Software updates or by connecting your phone to your PC and using Samsung Kies.

Amazon Appstore launching in Europe soon, Kindle Fire on its way too?

Compared with everyone else out there that’s shipping Android smartphones and tablets, Amazon is a unique Android device maker, as the online retailer took an entirely different approach when creating the Kindle Fire. Instead of only customizing the user interface of the Kindle Fire Android OS version, like most companies do with their products, Amazon went a step further and built its own Android-based OS, that’s independent from Google. In the process, Amazon went ahead and removed Google’s online services from the Kindle Fire’s OS including the Google Play app store – Android Market as it was called back then.

New Nexus 10 (2013) to be made by Asus, in stores for holidays – sources

Now Russell Holly of Geek.com claims that “multiple sources” confirmed to him that the upcoming Nexus 10 would actually be made by Asus. According to the report, the refreshed Nexus 10 will bear the same name as the original, just like the Nexus 7 (2013). The device will supposedly be available in the Google Play Store and at Best Buy in time for holidays. The 2012 Nexus 10 launched in mid-November, so Google will probably go for the same period for the 2013 edition.

JDI unveils "Full Active" LCD display for bezel-less phones

Japan Display Inc. (JDI) has announced its development of a new display technology known as a “Full Active” panel. The new design boasts that it can reduce the width of the bottom bezel down to as narrow as the other three sides, potentially reducing the size of smartphones using this display type. To coincide with the announcement, the company also introduced a 5.5-inch 1080p LCD display for smartphones built on this technology.
