Google Fiber TV demoed on video, glimpses of the future and all

Google’s groundbreaking Fiber service went live last week and it already began to change the lives of residents of Kansas City. For instance, a couple bought a family home in one of the Fiberhoods (area where Google deploys the Fiber service) and turned it into a startup incubator of sorts, where budding entrepreneurs can establish their “offices” to take advantage of the crazy fast 1Gbps internet access. But Google Fiber provides more than internet access at blazing speeds.

Google removes Uber integration in Maps with no explanation

TL;DR Since January 2017, you could book an Uber ride right in the Google Maps app. The feature has now been removed with no explanation from either Google or Uber. Going forward, to book an Uber ride, you will have to use the Uber app. Previously, you could look up a route for a ride-sharing trip and compare pricing from various services, including Uber. If you decided that taking an Uber was what you wanted, you could book the ride right in Google Maps (assuming you set up the integration with your Uber account previously).

Huawei's AI Cube isn't just an Alexa smart speaker, it's a 4G LTE router too

TL;DR Huawei has revealed the AI Cube smart speaker. The Google Home and Amazon Echo rival has built-in Amazon Alexa and can be used as a 4G LTE router. The AI Cube was unveiled at IFA 2018 — pricing and exact availability have yet to be confirmed. Huawei is jumping headfirst into the smart speaker market with the Huawei AI Cube, announced today at IFA 2018. Unlike the Google Home, Amazon Echo, and other leading smart speakers, the AI Cube — which, let’s face it, is quite clearly a cylinder and not a cube — is being marketed as a “two-in-one speaker” which, in addition to packing in Amazon’s Alexa AI for voice commands, can also double up as a 4G LTE router.

Leaker says all Galaxy S22 models will have glass backs

TL;DR The base Samsung Galaxy S22 will have a glass back, according to a leaker. This claim comes after the vanilla S21 was the only S21 model to have a plastic back. One of the more controversial tweaks for Samsung in recent years was the introduction of a “glasstic” back on some flagship phones, being plastic that’s meant to feel like glass. On the one hand, the material should survive a drop better than glass.

Sprint hopes to attract the 5-year-old consumers

Apparently, the cell phone industry is now trying their best to tap into the emerging market of… 5-year-olds? On Friday, Sprint introduced the WeGo, which is a cellphone that is designed for kids from the age of 5 to 12. The design of the phone is straightforward. There is one button on the front for making calls, two buttons on the side for scrolling up or down through approved contacts, and a “ring on a string” which the child can pull if they feel like they are in trouble.
