Google announced many new software treats at Google I/O today. Aparna Chennapragada introduced one of the best new features: visual guidance and Visual Positioning System in Google Maps Navigation.
We’ve all had been delayed figuring out Google Maps Navigation before — “am I going the right direction?” Google Maps can now use your camera to identify your surroundings, visually communicate your route right in front of your eyes!

Earlier this week Android 5.1 finally became official, and the first factory images hit the web as well. The OTA is beginning to rollout too, but, as always, it could take at least a few days or more for the update to reach your device. After testing its app on some 7-inch tablets, The New York Times has relaunched its dedicated application for Android devices. Samsung Experience Shops will be opened in Best Buy locations across the US – no less than 1400 of them.
Namely, there will be no fewer than 1,400 Samsung Experience Shops, and 900 of them are opening early next month, right on time for the Samsung Galaxy S4’s arrival, reports The Verge, that managed to pay a visit to one of the new stores.
Mobile products in the center Samsung will focus the new shops on its mobile products.

The Android 13 codename is “Tiramisu.” Unlike the past three versions of Android, Google’s putting the codename right in Android settings. Don’t get your hopes up, though: it is unlikely the OS would publically land as Android 13 Tiramisu. The last time Google publically and officially labeled an Android version with a “sweet treat” moniker was 2018’s Android 9 Pie. Android 10 was the first no-nonsense release, with Android 11 and Android 12 also going without any formally acknowledged treat name.

Even though Speedtest is new to the VPN game, the app has been around for ages. It’s been one of the most popular network speed testing apps for as long as I can remember.
Right now the service is in beta, and it will be completely free during this time. Once the beta period is finished, Speedtest VPN should come with both a free and a paid tier, though pricing hasn’t been disclosed at this time.
Update #2, January 25, 2019, 05:55 AM ET: Samsung is now rolling out Android Pie for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus in the U.K. One of our readers tipped us off about the update on Twitter, while Samsung’s U.K. support center has also confirmed it.
According to Samsung, the update is hitting SIM-free devices; those with carriers may need to wait a little longer for the rollout. The update has now been spotted in territories in Europe and Asia, but is yet to see a wide rollout in the U.

Chrome OS 71, the latest update for the operating system, is rolling out now. It brings a fully working “Better Together” function, which is all about Chromebook/phone synergy. There are also some Pixel Slate-specific features and some Linux improvements. Better Together is all about synergy between your Chromebook and your smartphone. Since this is Google we’re talking about, the best features are reserved for Google hardware like the Google Pixel Slate and the Google Pixel 3.
It’s official, folks, Verizon is getting a new phablet this winter, after the LG Intuition and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. And as expected, that third model is going to be HTC-made and will be known as the Droid DNA, the U.S. version of the HTC J Butterfly that was announced for Japan a while ago.
